Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Videos
All licensed and legal non-licensed childcare providers are required to review a video on the dangers associated with shaking infants and young children (Statute 245A.1445). The most commonly approved videos are "Portrait of Promise: Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome," "Never Shake a Baby!," and "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: An Update."
The library has many copies of these videos available in both VHS and DVD format with English, Spanish, Hmong, and Somali versions. The library provides viewers with certificates for their licensors proving that the annual viewing has taken place. Patrons can watch this video any time during normal business hours or check it out to view at home by filling out a free library card application. Normal business hours are 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM when classes are held in the building; otherwise 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Call 651-641-0305 to check the schedule.
If centers check this video out, we require an attendance list of viewers before certificates will be released.
You may also check your local public library to see if they have these videos available.
While this video must be viewed once per year, licensed and legal non-licensed childcare providers must also receive a minimum 1 hour training class every 5 years (Statue 245A.144). The video is not a substitute for this training session.
